My newsreader (xrn) notifies me of the moderation status when I submit
the posting (only after mailing, you would probably prefer another
chance at changing the Newsgroups: line). Maybe you should send a
feature request to the maintainers of your newsreader.

It must. A crossposting is just a single posting that is visible in
all the groups it is posted to. So if the news servers accepted it
without approval, it would show up in the moderated group without
approval. Therefore it has to be approved by the moderator before
being posted.

It's even funnier when several of the groups are moderated.
Certainly crossposting without setting Followup-to: to a single group
is a bad idea.
