Is it possible to have lilo or grub boot from a filesystem image file
without the actual media? For example, can I put a flopppy image in /boot
and have lilo boot the system from that?
Why, you may ask? Well I have vendors who insist on putting their
diagnostics on bootable DOS floppies. Since I don't have floppy drives in
my system, I have to create bootable CDs, which is sometimes a trial and
error process because I have to tweak things like config.sys.
Being able to boot off a filesystem image would be very helpful.
I tried it with something like "other=/boot/fdimage", where fdimage was
a FreeDOS bootable floppy image. LILO did not complain, but when I
rebooted the system, it printed a "FreeDOS" message and stopped there.
Anyone know what I am missing?
Thanks,
John
