During installation of SuSE 9.2, which uses kernel 2.6.8-24, I
get parity errors and bus resets from the scsi driver.
I can't seem to give any parameters to the sym53c8xx_2 module
during the installation; all my attempts seem to produce the
error:
Unknown parameter `X'
X being the first of however many parameters I've tried to enter.
I'm using /usr/src/linux/Documentation/scsi/sym53c8xx_2.txt
as the basis for the parameters.
Having spent a lot of time trying various approaches, and having read
a couple of negative reports about this driver with the 2.6 kernel,
I'm asking if anyone has gotten this combination to work, or is it
known to be faulty and a waste of time to persue?
The HBA works fine with the current 2.4.23 kernel with its compiled-
in sym53c8xx driver, so I'm confident that the cable/termination and
the HDs themselves are ok.
If anyone is interested in details, boot logs and dmesg outputs from
a typical failed installation are at:
ftp://ftp.eskimo.com/u/j/jimo/SuSE-9.2/2.6.8-24-logs
and for comparison, the same info for my current 2.4.23 system:
ftp://ftp.eskimo.com/u/j/jimo/SuSE-9.2/2.4.23-logs
I'd prefer to install SuSE 9.2 on this machine, if it's possible,
but if not, I'd like to know it, so I can head off in another direction.
I'd really appreciate any feedback.
TIA,
Jim
