John Dvorak has effectively suggested that for M$ to
defeat Linux, M$ would have to (more or less)
produce something like OS/X based on Linux but which
1. runs M$ apps and
2. uses M$-compatible drivers and
3. somehow or other implements the M$ GUI.
OK, Wine proves that 1 is possible, and 3 should be
doable with a lot of tedious work, but my question is,
how could they even possibly provide a compatibility layer
for M$ drivers without it being open source? Or rather,
could a closed source kernel module serve as a way
to execute Windows drivers?
