In case anybody really does have a need to use VSS from Linux,
Solaris, MacOS, I should mention that the clients are free
(gratis). There is a server that you have to run under Win32 on
a machine that has a VSS client installed. The server requires
a per-user licensing fee of a couple hundred USD.
For Linux there are both command-line and GUI (GTK) clients.
I've used SoS for several years, and have been pleased with the
product and the vendor.
Personally, I think their tag line in SoS marketing should be
"Making VSS suck less!"
