UML Linux

I tried getting UML working for 2.4.26. I downloaded the UML patch
(uml-patch-2.4.26-3) and have applied it to the 2.4.26 kernel and
compiled the kernel with ARCH=um (and CONFIG_BLOCK_DEV_DEVFS=y). I then
tried running the UML enabled kernl with the following command line

./linux ubd0=Debian-3.0r0.ext2 con=null con1=xterm

However the linux process hangs after mounting devfs.

I even tried compiling the entire thing with -O1 flag but did not help.

Also the suggestion on the UML site says "The fix is to boot UML on an
older filesystem.", WTF is a "an older filesystem" and where can I get
it.

I would appreciate if someone could help me out. I have been stuck with
this problem now for days.
