pppd

Hello!

I have what seems to be a trivial question, but have not been able to
find a definite answer and your help would be greatly appreciated.

SITUATION:
A GSM modem is connected to REDHAT 9 LINUX machine through serial port.
The GSM service provider has provided me with an ISP no.

QUESTION:
How to dial out to that ISP no. and following that, how can i start
pppd to access
internet ?

TRIALS DONE:
I have tried with "wvdial" . but it throws error : PPPD exit code 8 /
10.
