difference betwen /dev/shm and /dev/mem

Could someone please point me at some docs that explain the difference
between /dev/mem and /dev/shm?

It seems like both do essentially the same thing....

Both /dev/shm and /dev/mem seem similar; one is POSIX and the other is
BSD.... So what's the deal?

Any advantages to one over the other?
