Busybox Login problem since kernel 2.6.12

Hi,

i have created a small linux distribution using busybox 1.00 and linux kernel 2.6.8 on cd-rom some time ago. There is no support for loadable modules, everything is compiled into the kernel. I have updated the kernel to version 2.6.11.12 and everything did fine. Since kernel 2.6.12 (i tried 2.6.12.6) i can no longer login. After entering the user (root) and the password the system doesn't provide a shell, instead it asks for the user again. What could be the cause for this problem ??
Switching back to 2.6.11, 2.6.10,...,2.6.8 solves the problem, but i would like to use more recent kernels.

Thanks in advance and have a nice weekend,
Tobias
