maybe reading through 'man man' and give it some thought will help,
keywords 'man-db', 'index' or something...
Look at /etc/crontab and see when the cron.daily tasks are scheduled.
If you turn your system off at night, change the schedule or install
anacron so the daily tasks are executed every day.
