try this
[nirlep@nirlep java_prog]$which java
(if you have java in your path , it will work)
lets suppose if java is found
if it results like
[nirlep@nirlep java_prog]$which java
/usr/bin/which: no java in
(/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/nirlep/bin)

then it seems like there is no java in your path.

suppose that there is a java in /home/nirlep/java/bin
then try /home/nirlep/java/bin/java HelloDate
hope this works.
One thing. Try downloading java from sun.java.com and install in a
certain path (remember the path) then you will be able to do that.
