I (as a matter of fact a collegue of mine) got it:
the problem was a misconfiguration in the client PC:
network was setted to 172.16.31.128/255.255.255.128, so
the IP address was routed to the LAN server as was not
recognized to be a local lan packet: if I shutted down the server
it stopped working :-(
the server had the DNS, but it was that the problem.
