The problem:
Installing Debian on someone else's laptop, an Acer Travelmate 230 which
apparently has an Intel 82845G chipset graphics card. He doesn't need X, or
anything fancy--just needs a console linux install for a training course.
Unfortunately, everything (console, dselect, etc.) displays in a horrible
interlaced framebuffer mode, part of which is not visible (off the edge of
the screen).
What I've tried:
vga=ask and vga=normal in lilo.conf, neither had any useful effect.
I've never seen this happen before, and I'm hoping I don't have to do a
kernel recompile or add drivers. Isn't there a way to get a nice, simple,
non-interlaced console here? I was really going for a minimal install,
don't want to spend too much time on this.
