Mouse troubles in RH9

My Microsoft Serial Mouse has stopped working again. The first time this
happened, I reinstalled RH9 from CD and it came back.

This time, after installing a couple of RHN update packages, when I
rebooted, kudzu noticed MS Serial Mouse as new hardware, and wanted to
configure it. I said CONFIGURE, and the mouse hasn't worked since.
Interestingly, if I unplug it and reboot, kudzu notices that it is gone, and
if I plug it back in, kudzu sees the new appearance. Nevertheless, it
doesn't work.

Anybody else seen this problem?
