SCSI Card In -> Mouse Out!

I am very new at custom configuration.

SPECIFICS:

Red Hat 9.0
2.4.20-6 Kernel (the one that RH 9 comes with)
AMD Athlon 2100+

I bought a Tekram DC315U Ultra SCSI card so I could user an old HP Tape
Autoloader.

Unfortunately, the Red Hat distro does not come with the driver for the
Tekram (DC395x). Fortunately the drivers are available at
http://www.garloff.de/kurt/linux/dc395/

Have to follow a "recipe" with this stuff since I'm a newbie at this, so I
got the driver, followed the "recipe" for patching the kernel with the
driver at:

http://clue.denver.co.us/pipermail/clue-tech/2002-August/005455.html

and recompiled the kernel using the instructions found at:

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO/quick_steps.html

I made some mistakes, learned a lot, and finally got the kernel to boot. To
my satisfaction the system recognized the card and did the call/response for
"configuring" the card.

However, when I get to the BlueCurve login screen, I suddenly have NO MOUSE.

My mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer USB.

Obviously there is a conflict somwhere, but I'm d*mned if I know what it
could be, and I haven't a clue about debugging such things. If I reboot
using the old kernel, the mouse works fine, but if I boot with the
Tekram-enabled kernel, no mouse.

Any insights would be much appreciated!
