Hi,
The problem is simple: i want to have a laptop, so that i can carry around,
and i don't have enough money :) But i have an old p-3 650 computer at
home, a p4 2 ghz system at work, and a celeron 500 at my brother's home. So
i figured out, that if i can build the following system, i can keep on doing
my custom projects ( C++ ,C# and java mostly) at all these locations..
I want to have a linux system, that consists of only a usb harddisk, and a
boot floppy. I'm planning to copy the knoppix cd image to the external
harddisk, and create a floppy bootdisk that'll mount external usb hd, and
boot from the knoppix cd image on it.
This way, i can set up all my linux apps on other partitions on usb hd, and
maybe even have a guest windows install running in vmware under linux,
which'll also be installed on this external usb hd.
Since knoppix will be diagnosing all hardware at every boot, all i have to
do will be sticking the usb hd and floppy to the computer at work, home or
some place else.
So, what i need is
1-A floppy that can mount the usb Hd and boot from the knoppix image on it..
2-An external usb hd Box that i'll use to stick a new IDE HD that i'll
buy..(i can't afford an external usb hd now, so i'm planning to use this box
+ new HD which is much cheaper than a usb external drive)

I guess it won't give a killer performance, but if it works, that'll
probably be enough for me. Can anyone point me to right urls for creating
the floppy, and provide ideas on this setup ? Any help will be appreciated
a lot
Best Regards..
