IDE to Usb HD Enclosures

Hi,
To divide and conquer my original post, which was sent a few days ago, i
think it's better to ask the following: Does 2.4.x kernels support all IDE
to USB HD enclosures ? Are there any spesific brands that should be
preferred, or any brand to avoid ? Any help is appreciated a lot.
