Hi. I'm trying to install Red Hat 9 in a old PC. This is AMD k6 300
with 128 MB, VIA motherboard. It had win98 running. Now I just picked up
RedHat 9 CDs.
When Installing, anaconda isn't finding the serial mouse. It's got no PS/2
ports. Anyway I managed to install it. But I can't use the mouse from
the text console with gpm nor X.
When I move the mouse, the X cursor moves like crazy in the top of the screen
and does random moves. This mouse was running fine in windows.
Things I tried:
- another mouse
- remove link of /dev/mouse -> ttyS0, change serial port and add a
link to ttyS1
- remove mouse , run kudzu, nothing happens, plug mouse again, kuzdu, nothing
- check BIOS serial config: default
- check dmesg: both serial ports found
- recompile the kernel from source. generic_serial added to kernel
- removing an old SoundBlaster ISA card just in case it shared IRQs
or something.
I still haven't tried to update the rpms, but I don't think it'll do anything.
Any hints ? Thank you for your time.
