Radeon 9700pro under slackware 9.1

has anyone successfully installed the drivers and managed to get opengl
functioning [with acceleration] using an ATI/Gigabyte Radeon 9700pro [linux
2.4.22 | slackware 9.1] I have tried many times, but it still won't
accelerate, and winex won't load opengl.
Please help =/
