Hello there.
I have installed a Promise SX4000 ide raid 5 controller on a Mandrake 9.1
installation (kernel 2.4.21-0.25mdk).
Found drivers on http://majestic.lugh.de/~fs/promise/index.html and after I
compile and
insmod the module FastTrak.o, I can see the raid as sda.
My question is, how do I set up the system to boot from the raid?
I rerun lilo to be installed in the boot sector of sda. When it boots from
the controller,
the lilo menu comes up, I can choose in the lilo menu to boot the windows
installation from the same raid (and it loads ok), but if I choose "linux",
I get a kernel panic, saying that it could not mount a filesystem and
something about "no init found, try init =".
Does it have to do with how far from the boot sector the root partition is?
(it's after the 14GB windows partition, but I thought lilo had no problem
with that). Does it have to do with a needed initrd?
Any hints/directions/links? Keep in mind, I'm relatively new with this
topic.
Thanks,
Stratos
