If I had played with an Inspiron 5150 (Dell) before purchasing, I would never
have bought it. It's a tank, the keyboard layout stinks, and the keys
themselves are cheap chiclet-likes that I keep thinking I'm gonna snap right
off.
But, I've got it now, and want Redhat 9 on it (that's what we use at
work). Here are my current problems, maybe somebody can help me clean
them up. In no order :)...
* The mouse area is set to "tap the area to get a click". This is stupid
and results in me constantly clicking where I dont want. Way to turn
that off? I'd take the Thinkpad's "mouse nipple" anyday.
* Battery monitor constantly shows 0%.
* I dont think it's suspending when I close the lid.
* Netgear MA401 wireless network card works for a time, then throws a
zillion errors and
hangs up. Using the orinoco_cs driver. According to /pcmcia/config,
the card is listed and that's the driver I'm supposed to use. Could
it have anything to do with badly configured wireless or WEP settings?
It's weird that it works for awhile and then dies. It's nothing having
to do with the signal, because I'm not moving, and if I pop the card
into my Thinkpad I get a perfectly fine signal.
* I'm also having really weird X related problems, where suddenly
I'll just be told that I can't connect to :0.0. I suspect that has to
do with my network being flaky, but figured I'd mention it.
Thanks! At least I got the vidoe working the way I wanted. But that
does not make me a happy camper right now. :(
