All,

Thanks for the suggestions.

This weekend I tried Debian but version 3 did not install because it
needs 12MB of RAM (okay, that was stupid. Should have checked this
first. I have 8MB !!)

Then I tried Slackware vs. 7.1 with bootdisk bare.i but loading the
rootdisk run into trouble. Probably when writing the ramdisk.
Then I tried lowmem.i but then even the LILO did not load at all!! That
was the same floppy as I put bare.i on, so I don't know what the problem
was. Just took my loss and also let go of the demand of 2.4.4!!! First
try to get the system to work at all.

Then tried Slackware vs. 3.6 (bare.i) and this installed okay (the first
part mind you). Then I logged in and was supposed to start setup. This
did not work, it said that it could not 'fork'. Does this have to do
with the fact that I didn't make any additional partitions with fdisk?
Also when I typed a command it took the computer a minute or so (!!) to
decide that it could not perform any command. Is this normal, what am I
doing wrong here???

Greetings, Edward
