I just installed an ASUS P4P800 board with a Pentium 4 2.8c processor. I got
the onboard ethernet hardware to work by compiling the module from the source on
the disk that came with the board, but I'm having no luck with the sound.
Mandrake 9.1's installation routine suggests several sound drivers, none of
which work, and there's a source package for ALSA modules on ASUS's web site but
they won't compile and link cleanly for me. If anyone else has sound working on
this board, I'd like to hear how you solved it. I'm open to trying different
kernel releases, but I've tried several already.
