Selectively disabling USB functions

Hi guys,
I know this may sound odd given all the work that has gone into making
Linux support hot plug USB devices, but I am planning a system of
Linux/Intel machines that will be used on a secure LAN. In this
environment data import/export is restricted, so removable media are
forbidden. With more and more PCs these days going USB over PS2 for
keyboard/mouse interface we find ourselves with a security issue (USB
keys, hard drives, etc.). How does one selectively disable USB
operations? For example, disable everything except HID class USB
devices.
I'm hoping this is straightforward.

TIA
Robin
