Heh. I think I've decided to go nVidia next time. I'm having driver
issues with my AiW RADEON 8500 in both Linux and Windows, and I wanted to
know if anybody out there has had better luck than I.
It looks like I can, depending on the driver used, either:
(A) get the TV tuner working (with a crippled Video4Linux implementation
that only lets me view TV through xawtv) with no OpenGL hardware rendering
or
(B) get GL hardware rendering with the following problems:
1. CTRL+ALT+Plus/Minus freezes computer (not just X)
2. If running a full screen GL application, when application exits,
computer freezes
3. tuner not working
I'd using Windows, but I can't get TV working in Windows, and I use TV far
more often than I use OpenGL. But then, I'm interesting in shifting my
programming practices from hand-coded 3D transforms to using OpenGL,
which'd be less annoying to code with (probably), and I want to play with
Celestia. Has anybody had any better luck than I have had with this video
card? I'd love to go back to a GeForce+WinTV combo, but unless I get a new
job in the near future, i'll have to live with this ATI card for quite a
bit more time.
