I'm building a router that needs three/four nics. i'd like to pick up
some cheap ones from Newegg
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?submit=list&catalog=27&DEPA=5&order=price&sort=asc
but I've got a few questions:
is there much performance difference between some of the less expensive
cards? I see a full duplex 20/200 as opposed to 10/100...
So how can I figure out whether or not I can pick a module to include in
my kernel for the appropriate network driver and just be done? I'd
rather not have to much with prop. drivers (i.e., nVidia) or recompile
every time i have a new kernel.
Just look at the vendor's website, and see if their driver corresponds
to a driver of the same name in the kernel?
Any thoughts, suggestions? I'd like to stick with the $5 cards unless
there's a compelling reason not to...
Thanks, and sorry if this isn't a good question for this newsgroup, but
it seemed pretty close...
