I would advise avoiding 2.6 for things like this. As you don't *really
know* what you are doing (you just replaced the kernel and hoped it would
work), using 2.6 would lead to a bunch of incompatibilities related to
2.4 -> 2.6.
What i did (but with debian and boot floppies, instead of a cd) was to use
a 2.4.23 kernel-image with the libata patches. I installed on an ICH5
(intel d865perl) and everything works just fine. I also built with highmem
support as i have 1 Gb ram too.
