Gigafast EE100-AXP PCI card

I'm trying to get a Gigafast EE100-AXP card (based on the Realtek 8139
chipset) to work under the 2.4.23 or 2.6.0 kernels.

I've tried the 8139too module, but in 2.4.23, on insmod, the error I
get is No device found (close to that)

Unsurprisingly, lspci also does not show the device.

I'm using a Shuttle nForce2 board, AN35-Ultra 400.

I've tried the Realtek drivers, but the ones from www.realtek.tw don't
actually compile... (there's an error in the makefile). I "fix" the
error (by removin the last line just containing a persiod), but I
still can't get the modules going (some other compile error). Really,
I thought i'd just be able to use the in-kernel modules. The ones
Gigafast provides are the same ones Realtek has, so neither set
compiles successfully.

What does it mean for a PCI device not to show up under lspci? Does
it mean the device is buggy? Even when my onboard nvidia ethernet
controller doesn't have the appropriate drivers, it still shows up
under lspci.

I've tried disabling the onboard nvidia ethernet, though it still
shows up under lspci (along with other nvidia controllers, like audio,
usb, etc, which i have also disabled).

I've heard that people have gotten this card to work with linux... i
don't know if its the mobo, card, whatever. None of my other hardware
seems to have any problems of any sort, so hopefully that's out. The
network works fine (used with the onboard nvidia ethernet).

Thanks, this is driving me nuts. Guess I'll try 3com from now on...
