The Intel 875P is the North Bridge motherboard chipset. It's paired on
that motherboard with an Intel ICH5R chipset, which is what actually
provides the SATA support.

As it happens, the ICH5R chipset is very unusual in that it supports
(optional) RAID 0 disk-spanning entirely via a BIOS trick, which
functionality is therefore completely OS-independent. (Please be aware
that RAID 0 gives you performance at the expense of increased failure
risk: It's the _opposite_ of the usual "RAID" benefit in that sense.)
I have more about this matter on my page about SATA support in Linux:
"Serial ATA" on http://linuxmafia.com/kb/Hardware .

No, that's a very logical and intelligent question! I hope my follow-up
is of help to you.
