Hi,
I've got a RedHat 6.2 system updated to kernel 2.2.24. The usb-storage
module doesn't support most modern USB card readers, it appears. I have a
PQI Travel Flash card reader, and although the Travel Flash is recognized,
linux thinks my CF cards are always write-protected. I need to be able to
read/write CompactFlash cards with this system, somehow.
Can someone recommend a current model of card reader that would still work
with a 2.2 kernel? From running "strings" against the module, it appears
the following card readers are supported:
Sandisk Imagemate (SDDR-01 and SDDR-31)
Hagiwara FlashGate SmartMedia
Y-E Data Flashbuster-U
Shuttle eUSB MMC Adapter
I guess I would need something with a chipset that was backward compatible
with the older chipsets found in the above devices. For example, would a
newer Sandisk Imagemate reader work? I realize the 2.2 kernel is old, so
please don't say "you must upgrade to a 2.4 kernel"; I'm well aware of the
excellent USB device support in the 2.4 kernels.
I Googled and found that a bunch of people had success with the SDDR-31, but
I'd like to know of a current model I could go get a CompUSA or Microcenter
or such.
Thanks for any ideas.
