Hey,
I have recently tried to make the transition from windows to linux
(using debian). I originally set it up using the stock (stable dist)
bf24 wooody distribution, however I wanted to try out the new
2.6.3-1-k7 kernel. I have upgraded to testing, and upgraded the
kernel, and that process went ok, however when i use the new nVidia
driver for my card (GeForce4 MX440) i seem to be getting very low
frame rates. I have tried this using the latest stable (2.6.4) kernel
as well to no avail.
For testing purposes a mate has a GeForce4 Ti4200, which although
obviously much better then mine shouldnt completely *thrash* the
scores as it does), using glxgears as a test, the following were the
frame rates
His: 19061 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3812.200 FPS
Mine: 4034 frames in 5.0 seconds = 806.800 FPS
Now i know that there should be frame rate differences between the
cards, but that much ?
So my question becomes, could anybody else who has a working
2.6.3/2.6.4 kernel running the newest nVidia drivers, with a GeForce4
MX 440, please provide approximate frame rates they get with glxgears,
and / or, if they know of this problem, could you please inform me of
a solution (other then buying a new graphics card [i wont be doing
that until halflife2 comes out :)]) or a possible source to find more
information????
(For a little reference the nvidia driver i was using is listed below,
and my computer is getting *older now* :( but its an athlonXP 1800+
with 512mb ram if thats usefull)
Version: 1.0-5336
Operating System: Linux IA32
Release Date: January 26, 2004
Thanks for your time
