sound works, but volume hardly
I'm having alsa 1.03 together with my Kernel 2.6.3 (alsa not compiled in) on
Debian unstable. Soundcard is a CM8738 (cmipci module). alsa 0.96 worked nicely.
Alsa starts and I have sound, but alsactl refuses to restore volumes ("alsactl:
load_state:1134: No soundcards found...") and alsamixer says something similar
("alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device").
Nevertheless wmmixer starts and lets me regulate the master volume (no other
volumes changeable).
I guess there are some devicenames wrong, but I don't know where to look. The
sound-part of my modules.conf reads:
########################################
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
options snd major=116 cards_limit=4
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/dsp* snd-pcm-oss
#######################################
The alsaconf finds the soundcard w/o problems and processes fine except the
alsactl part (same error as if run manually).
Any idea where I should have a look?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'd like to have my sound back and I did
not find similar problems in the debian or alsa lists.
Tia,
Dominique
