I've got two computers, both with Asus P4PE motherboards. I've got 4 USB
devices:
USB thumb drive
scanner
printer
disk
DVD+RW
The first three are USB 1.1 devices, the last two are USB 2.0 devices.
On the Linux box, when running Redhat 9, the disk and DVD work. The thumb
drive, scanner and printer are not seen at all. E.g., they don't even show
up in lsusb or usbview. They simply do not exist, as far as Linux is
concerned.
I've also got a USB 1.1. sharing hub, and when I plug it into the RH 9
system, its LEDs do not come on.
However, when running Fedora Core 2 on that box, all five devices show up
fine. I haven't tried the hub (because I left it at work), but I suspect it
would work fine, too.
Everything works on Windows on the other computer, too.
So, it appears that my Redhat box simply does not see USB devices unless
they are USB 2. This seems strange to me. Anyone seen this before? Is
there some "USB 2 only" setting I've overlooked?
