I just tried to write a data DVD using k3b. Everything seems to work,
but I can't read the data on the disc.
On the disc is a single 3.2GB file, but when I try to mount the disc
under Linux, the file show up as 5MB, and those 5MB are all I get.
Ordinarily, I'd suspect k3b, but I tested the same dvd on a
Windows2000 system, and it correctly read all 3.2GB from the disc. So,
hardware is OK, as is writing software. That leaves only the reading
part on the suspect list.
I'm running a Gentoo system, fully updated, with kernel as follows:
root@vidder:/usr/src/linux #uname -a
Linux vidder 2.4.25-gentoo-r2 #1 Fri May 7 23:24:44 CEST 2004 i686 AMD
Duron(tm) Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
The dvd is normally mounted as (from fstab)
/dev/cdroms/cdrom1 /dvdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0
but manually mounting it with
mount /dev/hdd /mnt
gives the same result.
I've also tried reading the SuSE7.3 dvd, which has over 4GB of
relatively small files, and everything worked fine. I now suspect that
the sheer size of the file on the problem disc might have something to
do with it, and that I'm lacking the proper file system support, but I
don't know where to begin looking for information on this, nor am I
certain this really is the problem.
Can anyone out there shed some light on this?
Thanks
Rob
