The sb live isn't recomended for recording but is good for playback.
For recording, just about any other other soundcard will do a better job.
The sblive does so much garbage to the captured signal that by the time
it is done with it, it sounds little better than FM with multipath distortion.
For s/pdif, I wouldn't be surprised if the signal is converted to analog
and back to digital before it makes it's way through the sound card. Sure
sounded like it.
