I have a small network of three computers - two Linux and one XP on a
100mb ethernet. I have used Samba for ages to transfer files between them
and to back each other up.
Recently, I got into the PVR building and the file sizes suddenly got huge
- usually 2 to 5 gig. If I tried to transfer a large file between Linux
boxes it would always blow up the transfer after a few minutes. I finally
decided that Samba must have a 2 gb limit to file sizes. Kind of strange
in this day and age but it happened at the same place no matter what the
file.
Then I discovered that I could transfer any size file between Linux and XP
which blew my theory, since I am still using Samba for the transfer.
NFS between Linuxes works fine and will transfer the largest files that I
have so the above problem is no show stopper, but it is bugging me.
So... Why will Samba work between XP and Linux, but blows at 2gb between
Linux boxes?
