ATA controller on Dell and drive designation

Oy Dell Inspiron 1100, the hard disk shows up in the Fedora installer as
/dev/hdc. Apparently, /dev/hda is the CD/RW drive.
Checking the Windows hardware profiles, it appears that the machine also
has a built-in ATA controller in addition to the primary and secondary
IDE controllers. It seems plausible that the hard drive is on that
controller. That could explain what looks like anomalous behavior.
Can anyone verify that? Is it likely to cause a problem on installation?
