Dear everyone,
recently I've had an opportunity to try a few different hardware
watchdogs on Advantech hardware in Linux 2.4. Many of my
discoveries are vendor-independent. I have decided to summarize
my experience on a dedicated web page:
http://www.fccps.cz/download/adv/frr/wdt/watchdogs.html
I suggest several patches to the Linux 2.4 kernel, mainly to
clear up the "menuconfig" entry labels and the accompanying help
entries. Many of them are clearly misguiding in the vanilla kernel.
I have also included a patch or two posted to the mailing lists
by other people, most importantly the W83627HF driver by Padraig
Brady. The patch can be downloaded at
http://www.fccps.cz/download/adv/frr/wdt/watchdogs-patch.tgz
The patch is related to the following watchdogs:
- advantechwdt.c - the basic Advantech "port 443 watchdog"
- the Advantech PCM-5823 watchdog (1.6s single-shot @ port 0x443)
- the W83627HF watchdog - vendor independent (AKA the new Advantech WDT)
- the Intel i810 / ICH watchdog - vendor independent
Any further comments/suggestions are welcome.
