Slight lateral thinking here Bob, if you have made a backup why not try
and shrink the partition that is already on there before you remove the
jumper, you only need to drop it by a few meg ( probably a multiple of
8 ) then when you remove the jumper you "should" be left with a blank
end that you can format?

I have never tried this but just a thought, might save you having to
replace all the back-up.

Ps. let us know what happens if you do please for future ref.
