Depending on your bios you may not be able to boot from the CD.
I have a recent manufacture Promise Ultra133-TX2 which I use
for my hard drives and reserve the motherboard EIDE ports for
the ATAPI peripherals. The hard drives are recognized as
/dev/hde,f,g,h under Linux and boot from /dev/hde. Unless
you've got cable routing problems, this is probably the best bet.
