Max. out the RAM. Consider getting a SCSI controller, like the Adaptec
AHA-1542. Strip everything of whichever distro you choose.
The smallest machine i ever ran Linux on was a 386 SX 25 with 4 mb RAM, the
low amount of RAM made it swap so much, it lost network packets, when
pinging.
