For an x86sx kernel, compile with floating point emulation turned on.

I ran Linux kernel 2.0.13 on a 486sx/33mhz in 8MB ram laptop. Can't
remember original disk size. It had a pcmcia network card. I nfs'd
the disk & ran apache on it.

I didn't run X, much less a memhog like Gnome or KDE.

It made a great little test server for web pages & cgi-bins. I
compiled lots of C code on it, used it to develop software to drill
into a Clipper database to retrieve data & make it available via web
interface. Also used it to learn shell scripting, perl, dns, system &
network admin techniques.
