Just to confirm (after some posting on usenet + messing with this modules..)
that on:
kernel 2.6.7-486 i686
Debian unstable,
alsa v. 1.0.5a
Chaintech m/b with cmi-8738 chip
to enable midi thru the game/midi port (needs using a correct 15-pin to
midi-in+out 5din-plug adapter),
modprobe -v snd-cmipci mpu_port=0x300
works correctly. (no warranty hovewer...)
(eventually after removing the wrong loaded module like:
rmmod snd-cmipci or more rude /etc/init.d/alsa force-stop)
(danke Andreas H"unnenbeck + grazie Emiliano Grilli for the help)
To test, aconnect -lio:
....
client 64: 'MPU-401 MIDI 0-0 - Rawmidi 0' [type=kernel]
0 'MPU-401 MIDI 0-0'
The problem remains how to enable it on boot, as with debian you cannot (or
should not) edit /etc/modules.conf, instead edit some file under /etc/modutils
the run update-modules which will update modules.conf *OR/AND* edit some file
under /etc/modprobe.d which should set the things when kernel loads the module,
but on my box this is not happening. Module cmipci loads still without my option.
If somebody could give me more precise indication or point me to some page to
read i'll be thankful.
