I have tried asking for help with this problem to the author and the
mailing list at sourcefourge but I have not received a response.
Soooooooooo I will try here....
I am trying to get apcupsd working on Fedora Core 2 with an APC backUPS
725 ES series UPS.
I successfully configured, compiled, installed and started apcuspd as a
simple one computer one UPS
configuration. I even get what appears to be valid the output
from running apcaccess status. See below:
[root@localhost root]# apcaccess status

I have gone through the manual and everything was going fine until I
began the "Communications Test" .
At this point I was unable to get the predicted results. When I
disconnect the USB cable from the UPS a wall message is not
sent and no apcupsd event messages are logged to apcupsd.events or
/var/log/messages. The only messages I see logged are the
disconnect and re-connect of a USB device in /var/log/messages. The
manual says correct this before continuing unless you have a dumb UPS.
Thinking that maybe the UPS I have is not as smart as I thought I proceeded
to the "Simulated Power Test" and I did not get the expected results either.
In other words no event messages were loged or sent to a console.
How do I correct the Communications test failure?
The manual says to correct it before contuning but does not give any
guidance on how.
Some other things I noticed and did to get to this point.
1) BATTV is 13.4 Volts instead of the "...should be near 24 volts...."
as stated in the manual. I am only using one battery. Don't know if this
has anything to do with it or not.
2) When I first tried starting apcupsd I specified a 940-1227A cable but
apcupsd would not start. When I changed this to USB it started. The USB
cable I have is stamped 940-1227B.
Thanks,
Jack
