I am running Slackware 10. My DVD writer, a LiteOn SOHW-812S has been
working flawlessly, until recently. All of a sudden, growisofs started
having difficulties burning DVDs, and now it seems to be unable to. If, as
root, I issue the following command:
growisofs -Z /dev/scd0=image.iso
the green light in the DVD writer blinks for a few seconds, then it stops,
then it blinks again, more rapidly, for a few seconds, then stops. The
command above eventually returns, printing the following:
:-( /dev/scd0: media is not recognized as recordable DVD: 0
Now, I know that the DVD in the DVD writer is fine - I have used such DVDs
in the past, in this writer, without any problems. Also, I have tried
several DVDs from different makers, and the end result is the same one
described above. Incidentally, this happens both with DVD-R and DVD-RW
DVDs - both of them supported by my DVD writer, as I successfully burnt
such types af DVDs just a few weeks ago.
For more info, the output from cdrecord -scanbus is

For completeness, I downloaded a copy of cdrecord-prodvd, and the command

returns

This all makes me think that there some sort of hardware problem, but
where? The DVD writer is recognized all right, but it acts as though there
was no DVD - and there is one, believe me.
Anyone can suggest ways to troubleshoot this? At this point, I am stymied.
