5.1 sound with Hercules card (cs46xx)

    hello.

    my hardware is a 1,3 Ghz athlon, and hercules fortissmo

    two situations, with either unsatsfactory results :

    with kernel 2.4.21 and alsa 0.9 (mandrake 9.2), I don't have the 5.1
    capabilities :
    cat /proc/asound/pcm
    00-00: CS46xx : CS46xx : playback 31 : capture 1

    I don't know how to get the other devices (I have a proper .asoundrc though)

    with kernel 2.6 and alsa 1.0.6, I can get 5.1 sound, but when I try to use
    it with mplayer (mplayer -ao asla1x -c 6 dvd://xx) the CPU is vampirised ,
    the image gets choppy and it stops by CPU starvation.
    with 4 channels, it is playable but eats 80 % of the CPU

    Any idea in either case ?
