ATI drivers on x.org problem

ATI driver:
fglrx-4.3.0-3.14.6.i386.rpm

After installation and (somewhat troublesome due to paths) compilation
of the driver, configuring it with fglrxconfig (for a very basic
standard configuration) the X server refuses to start with the error:
Fatal server error:
Cannot run in framebuffer mode. Please specify busIDs for all
framebuffer devices
