inspiron 510m modem on linux

HI

I installed linux (debian/unstable) on a dell inspiron 510m notebook
and I'm trying to get the winmodem to work. Found some reports on google
telling that a driver from smartlink works

I keep getting this message:

error: mdm setup: cannot open dev `/dev/slamr0': No such device
error: cannot setup device `/dev/slamr0'

Where can I look for a cause?
