RAM up-grade question

Hi there,

(Disclaimer: This isn't strictly a Linux issue.)

I have searched the web and usenet archives for this one but there
is far too much noise out there for me to find the answer.

My 'problem': I have a 1.5 year old PC with 256 MB RAM and now I
consider adding more RAM to it.

My question: Is it important to get RAM with the same performance
specs as the old one? (PC2100/DDR266 CAS2.5...)

TIA
