I have the following problem:
I have a Acer Aspire 1500 laptop with an Agere softmodem. I run Slackware
linux 9.1
After a not so easy research I finally found a driver (provided by Agere
through IBM) wich worked fine.
Now, for some reasons I had to recompile my kernel, I did something wrong
and lost my .config file. So I had to reconfigure all. Now I have new kernel
wich works fine, but my modem no longer works!
The dirver compiles and loads without problems, it creates the serial
interface /dev/ttyS14, but wvdial (my dialing program) cannot comunicate
with the modem. I also tried to send something to the modem manually with
chat, it hangs forever....
#chat " '' AT&F "
......................
#wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.53
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: AT&F
--> Sending: ATQ0
--> Re-Sending: AT&F
--> Modem not responding.
#
Since I did not change any other settings, the problem must be in my kernel
configuration, but I can't figure out what it is. I've got support for PPP,
TCP/IP, PCI and serial ports.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
